Gary Kirsten will hold talks with ECB director of cricket Ashley Giles on Wednesday over England head coachs function, Sky Sports News knows.
Kirsten is the top candidate to substitute Trevor Bayliss, who stepped down after the Ashes series.
Sky Sports News knows the interview procedure is continuing and that Giles is meeting with other hopefuls.
The 51-year-old has experience of global training, having appreciated in his career.
Giles has previously stated his preference as head trainer for an Englishman, together with Chris Silverwood – that the present fast bowling coach – regarded yet another front-runner as a result of his previous title-winning experience at Essex.
Surreys Alec Stewart is also linked with the role, as has the batting trainer Graham Thorpe and Ireland coach Graham Ford of England.
Giles will hope to create a new head coach in time for Englands tour of New Zealand, that starts on November 1 with a global in Christchurch.
